Poultry producers usually look forward to December when there is a higher consumption of eggs and other poultry products.
According to officials from the Agriculture Ministry, there should be no shortage of eggs or other poultry products which is a major concern for this Christmas season. While the Guyana Poultry Producers Association has also given an assurance that there will be no shortage, since supplies for the local market are expected to remain stable.
According to a large scale chicken producer, Guyana would not be experiencing a shortage on the local market. It takes three weeks for the eggs to hatch and six weeks to rear chickens. As such chickens for the season are already on the ground.
Earlier in the year there was a poultry shortage, however, Government took action to ensure that consumers do not have issues with high prices during the Christmas season.
