Relatives have identified one of the two victims from Friday’s fatal accident at Eight Miles Mabura Road.
A sister identified him as 25-year-old Cion Rouse, a miner from Duke Street, Kingston and formerly of Mabaruma, Region 1, after viewing his remains on Friday at the Lyken Funeral Home.
Kaieteur News understands that Rouse and another man, who is still unidentified, were returning from the interior and had hitched a ride on a lumber-laden truck, GRR 9317, when it suffered a blowout and overturned.
Rouse and the other passenger were pinned beneath piles of lumber.
They were pronounced dead on arrival at the Linden Hospital Complex.
The driver, 25-year-old Andy Ramsawack of Block 10 Diamond, East Bank Demerara; Jermaine La Cruz and the owner, Sohan Bipta, were treated at the Linden Hospital before being transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
