Junior race walkers throughout Guyana will match steps on Sunday when the Cavaliers Sports and Tour Club (CSTC) stages a 10k event around Soesdyke East Bank Demerara. The race will commence at 06:30hrs at Calvin Gilkes’ residence, Back Road and proceed around the community before culminating at the place of origin. The Guyana Tourism Authority along with the Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Norman Whittaker has donated trophies for the event while Nigel’s Supermarket will provide water for the participants. At 13:00hrs the club will host its Annual Children’s Christmas social at the said venue. Meanwhile, Public Service Minister, Dr. Jennifer Westford MP, Managing Director of Modern Optical Services Dr. Jose da Silva, Founder of the Cavaliers Sports and Tour Club, the late Olga Harry and Kaieteur News Sports Journalist Michael Benjamin came in for high praise from a United States based Race Walk Foundation for their sterling contribution towards the growth of the sport in Guyana. Coordinator of the Club Jennifer Major said that officials from the US Foundation will visit Guyana next year to meet with members of the CSTC and other individuals.
