Children in the Paediatric Ward of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC)
yesterday experienced a taste of the season, compliments of the Police Wives’ Association (PWA).
At noon yesterday, the wives, bearing treats and gifts, visited the ward to spread Christmas cheer.
This sparked great excitement amongst the kids, and the sparkle was evident in their eyes as each wife met with them and distributed toys and goodies in an atmosphere of love, joy, peace and goodwill.
The excited children were each handed a party bag filled with goodies and an age appropriate gift. These tokens were left with the parents, guardians and staff for those children who were asleep or were too young to understand that Santa’s helpers paid an early visit.
The wives wished the children all speedy recovery, and expressed hope that they would be out of the hospital before Christmas. They said that for the children who may have to spend their Christmas in the hospital, the PWA hopes it can help to make their stay much better during the holiday season.
Desiree Robin, Chairperson of the PWA, said that the distribution, yesterday, was part of a series of charitable projects the association has embarked on this past year.
Robin said that her group normally conducts fundraisers at the institution, so when they thought of giving back, they immediately thought of the children. The activity, the Chairperson said, is one her association will be looking to do annually.
The Police Wives’ Head expressed thanks to Ansa McAl, Continental Group of Companies, Food for the Poor Incorporated and Giftland Office Max.
On Saturday, the police wives will be in the streets of Georgetown feeding up to 100 homeless children.
The Police Wives’ Association was launched on April 27, 1953, with the objective of developing a friendly atmosphere among the wives of policemen, and to assist in the development of the children of police ranks. Their motto is “Growing in service to the community”.
