A sustained two fisted attack by Forgotten Youth Foundation (FYF) representative,
Kevin Allicock, earned him a majority points decision over Shaquille Wright of the Essequibo Boxing Gym (EBG) and the 100-104lbs title when they clashed in the Pepsi/GBA U-16 boxing tournament at the Andrew ‘Sixhead’ Lewis Boxing Gym, Independence Boulevard, last Sunday afternoon. For his efforts, Allicock was also adjudged the Best Boxer, while Shaquancy Wright (EBG) received a special award for being the boxer with the best potential. He had earlier defeated Kevin Mullings (HE) in their 60-64lbs bout.
The two boxers comprised a part of the 9 bout card which represented the final edition of the DDL sponsored programme for the fiscal year.
DDL Marketing Representative, Larry Wills was present and later said that he thoroughly enjoyed the proceedings. He lauded the boxers for their action packed performances and said that it was such dedication that encouraged the executives of his company to continue supporting the youngsters in their bid to succeed in the sport.
President of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) and Committee Member of the International amateur Boxing Association (AIBA), Steve Ninvalle, also graced the function and reiterated his gratitude to the beverage company for their support. He was also impressed with the standard of boxing and urged the youngsters to continue training to attain the highest standard. He assured them that his executive will do all within its power to create opportunities to facilitate their continued development.
The results of yesterday proceedings also witnessed Gerald Williams (EBG) winning from Moses Oxford
(HE) in the 55-59lbs division, while Jakeel Cadogan (HE) conceded a walk over to his gym mate, Leon Moore (jnr) in the 65-69lbs class. Isaiah Moore (HE) defeated his gym mate, Kevon Mulling to take the 85-89lbs title moments before Deshon Allicock (EBG) outpointed his gym mate, Stevie DoPrado (EBG) in the 115-119lbs division. Quincy Boyce (GDF) and Akeem Mounter (EBG) brought the curtains down with an action packed exhibition bout.
