Joel Prescott, a minibus conductor appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer to a robbery under arms charge yesterday.
It is alleged that Joel Prescott, on November 28, last, at Georgetown, robbed Govinda Narine of one blackberry cellular phone, one galaxy cellular phone, one gold band and one gold chain together valuing two hundred and twenty five thousand dollars ($225,000) at knife-point.
The 21-year-old conductor who operates on the Kitty/Campbellville route was unrepresented and pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The accused told the court, “I was in a restaurant and some guy came up and robbed him and he say I get the boy to rob him.”
He also stated that he resides at Stanleytown, West Bank Demerara, and suffers from Malaria and tries to keep out of the way of the police.
Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones objected to bail based on the penalty that the offence attracts and the fact that the defendant is known to the virtual complainant.
Prescott was ordered to report to the Brickdam Police Station every Friday, until the completion of the trial. The matter was adjourned until January 07, 2015 to Magistrate Fabayo Azore court.
