The second Annual GT Beer “Supa 16” Football tournament organized by the Upper
Demerara Football Association and sponsored by Banks DIH Limited will kick off tomorrow with the official opening ceremony and two exciting matches at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground at 18:30 hours.
Defending champions Winners Connections will be hard pressed to defend their title as they battle against Topp XX, Milerock Football Club, Net Rockers, Eagles United, Botofago, Peace Makers, Kwakwani Strikers, Vasco, Silver Shattas, Hi-Stars, Mahdia FC, Block 22 Goal Getters, Snatchers, Amelia’s Ward Panthers and Blue Berry Hill.
Over $2.4 million will be up for grabs with the winners securing a top prize of $1 million plus the GT Beer Trophy.
The second placed team will receive $600,000 and a trophy with third place securing $400,000 and a trophy, while the fourth place finishers will take home $200,000 and a Trophy.
There will also be prizes for the Most Valuable Player, Most Goals scored, Best Goalkeeper, Most Disciplined team, Best Defender and Best Coach.
President of the UDFA Collis Gifth, said there will opening ceremony with a march past of the competing teams and a feature address and kick off by Minister of Public Service Dr. Jennifer Westford.
There will also remarks by representatives of Banks DIH Limited, President of the UDFA, the GFF Normalization Committee and Region Ten administration.
The first game of the double header card will bring together Linden Masters against an East/West Combined team.
Blue-Berry Hill will square off with Vasco in the feature match.
Matches will be played on December 17th, 19th, 22nd, 25th, 26th, 28th with the grand final and third place playoff set for January 1st 2015. All matches will be played at the MSC ground.
The Tournament was launched last Saturday with at the Watooka Complex attended by the competing teams, officials, UDFA executives and officials of Banks DIH Limited.
