DEAR EDITOR,
My heart goes out to Maureen McAlmont and family members of Mango Landing, in the interior of the country, over the murder of her husband Linden, by bandits.
The criminals seem to be in charge of our society. Drastic actions are needed to curtail the rise in crime and to protect us from these hooligans.
I don’t know the McAlmonts. Reports suggest they are productive, hard-working citizens seeking to make a decent life by providing vital services to people in the section of the interior where they run their business. Not many individuals are willing to leave the coast and try to make a living in the interior. Such individuals deserve all the support and encouragement they can get.
The bandits don’t make things easy for people who engage in honest, hard labour to earn their bread. While difficult to bear, especially during this holiday time, such productive citizens must not be discouraged from continuing to ply their business.
Our hearts should bleed for the McAlmonts. Every effort must be made to find the killers. Fighting crime is everyone’s business. Every decent hard-working citizen is a target for unscrupulous robbers. People with information on the fatal shooting or on any crime should inform the police.
