– Morgan is second Caribbean woman in both races
Guyana’s Cleveland Forde was the first Caribbean male athlete to cross finish line on Saturday
in the Run Barbados Powerade 10km Road Race and Sunday in the Half Marathon, placing third overall in both races to the gritty Kenyans.
Forde finished behind Richard Kessio and Disi Dieudonne in the 10km Road Race on Saturday and maintained the same order in the Half Marathon on Sunday with the two African placing in a similar position as well.
Meanwhile, Guyana’s Alika Morgan was the second Caribbean woman in the 10km Road Race with a fourth place finish behind Trinidadian, Tonya Nero, who was third. Kenya’s Leach Kigen won with England’s Amy Chalk second.
Nero turned the tables on the Kenyan in the longer version, winning the Half Marathon ahead of her with Chalk third and Morgan again fourth. Forde and Morgan were the only two Guyanese in the events last weekend in The Land of the Flying Fish.
Morgan expressed thanks to her sponsors for the year, Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company, Cummings Electrical, Prime Minister Sam Hinds, Payless Variety Store, Andrew King, Trans Guyana Airline and Neil Kumar.
Meanwhile, Forde thanked Guyana Defence Force Chief of Staff, Mark Phillips, Mrs Stevenson of SPADS, and Lennox Cush of Starr Party Rentals for making his participation in the event possible.
