While players from the three other quarter-final matchups had to endure the agonizing
unease of depending on a teammate to be successful in his penalty attempt, tournament favourites Sparta Boss had no such trepidation after producing a masterful display to settle their account in regulation time when play in the Georgetown Zone of the Guinness ‘Greatest of de Streets’ Futsal Competition continued on Sunday evening, at Demerara Park.
Appearing in the final game of quarter-final action against Albouystown ‘B’, Sparta Boss leading marksmen Devon Millington and Sheldon Shepherd did what they have been doing throughout the competition to date, firing in the goals in the 2nd and 5th minutes respectively to ensure a semi-final berth for the hot favourites to take the crown.
In the opening encounter, former champions Leopold Street ensured that West Front Road ‘Gold is Money’ performance imitate that of the slumping price for gold on the world market when they defeated them 4-3 in sudden death penalty kicks. The two teams had battled to a nil-all stalemate in regulation time.
The second game saw Festival City Warriors eliminate Cross Street with a 2-1 penalty shootout victory after their clash failed to produce any goals in regulation time, while North Ruimveldt won via a similar route against Globle Yard after their encounter did not create any goals.
Game -1: Leopold Street-0 vs West Front Road-0; Leopold won 4-3 on sudden death kicks.
Game-2: Cross Street-0 vs Festival City Warriors-0; Festival City won 2-1 on penalty kicks.
Game-3: North Ruimveldt-0 vs Globe Yard-0; North Ruimveldt won 1-0 on penalty kicks.
Game-4: Sparta Boss-2 vs Albouystown-B-0; Devon Millington-2nd, Sheldon Shepherd-5th.
The semi-finals which is scheduled to be played tonight at the National Cultural Centre Tarmac will see Sparta Boss tackling North Ruimveldt and Leopold Street engaging Festival City Warriors.
The two clashes are anticipated to produce fireworks as the teams inch closer to the top prize of $600,000 and a place in the national playoffs.
