Former champions Leopold Street are anticipated to face an uphill struggle when they face West
Front Road (Gold is Money) in the opening fixture of quarter-final action in the Georgetown Zone of the Guinness ‘Greatest of de Streets’ Futsal Competition which is set to be played, at Demerara Park this evening.
Leopold Street will be looking to inspirational leader O’Kenie Fraser to lead their charge for victory, while West Front Road, who appears far more superior on paper, will be depending on the services of Michael and Hubert Pedro along with Randolph Wagner and Stellon David to advance to the next round.
In the night’s second game, Cross Street with Ronaldo Dover, Samuel Hunte, Troy Heyliger and Andre Trotz in their lineup take on Festival City Warriors who have so far performed true to nature and they will no doubt be pinning their hopes on players’ such as Eon Alleyne, Daniel Favourite and Shaquille Duncan to lead them to victory.
North Ruimveldt, another team that looks strong on paper, tackle Globe Yard and this matchup should produce fireworks.
Travis ‘Zorro’ Grant, Gerald Gritten and Joshua Browne, the players on whose shoulders the burden for a place in the semi final will rest for North Ruimveldt, while Globe Yard’s chances of progressing further will depend on how well Lionel Grimes, Kevin Lewis and Anthony France perform.
In the final encounter of the night, crowd and tournament favourite Sparta Boss square off against the upstarts Albouystown ‘B’ and this is a fitting marquee clash.
Sparta Boss possesses loads of firepower led by the skilful Devon Millington, who will be assisted by Sheldon Edwards, Cleyon Forrester and Eusi Phillips, but Albouystown ‘B’ have already shown that they are not phased by ‘big’ names and Marlon Nedd and Roy Cassou is a very potent combination so it will be interesting to see who will win this battle.
Just before the real action commences there will be four exhibition games.
Below are the fixtures:
21:00 hrs Leopold Street V/S West Front Road
21:30 hrs Cross Street V/S Festival City Warriors
22:00 hrs North Ruimveldt V/S Globe Yard
