Rudolph London, a remanded prisoner currently serving time for a murder charge, appeared before Magistrate Ann
McLennan yesterday for having an illegal substance in his possession.
It is alleged that on November 23 at Camp Street prison the defendant was found with three and a half grams of cannabis in possession. He pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the offense.
London told the Magistrate, “its 4 years now I’m in jail, I find it in the yard on the ground when the officer come and say it was mine.”
Prosecutor Dinero Jones told the court that London, who was unrepresented by legal counsel, hails from 109 Best Village, East Bank Demerara. The facts given by the Prosecutor stated that at around 15:00 on the day in question, a search was conducted at the Camp Street Prison by a prison officer who observed that London had a clear plastic bag in his hand. The bag contained seeds, leaves and stems suspected to be marijuana.
London is accused of murdering his reputed wife Shaundell Warwick, in 2011. The incident was said to have occurred after the deceased received a phone call from a male on New Year’s Eve Day. London reportedly became enraged and armed with a cutlass dealther several lashes to her head.
Magistrate Ann McLennan fined the accused $20,000 along with 6 months imprisonment and he was further remanded.
