After Sherlan Legall and Ashton Adams had built up a perfect record against opposition in the Mackeson
‘King of the Rim’ Basketball Challenge, a Floyd Arthur two-point dagger in the dying seconds sealed TRS Raptor’s perfect record in Plaisance.
The incentive for the Melanie-based team is that they will play in the Grand Finale after defeating Team Venom 11-8 Tuesday night to end their sojourn with a perfect record against teams from Belladrum, Buxton, Melanie and Plaisance.
Arthur had an excellent shooting game, finishing with six points while Sherlon Legall had four points. For the opposition, Buxton-based Team Venom, Kevin Dey and Ewart Smith were the main scorers with four and three points respectively.
Raptors also overcame home team, Plaisance Guardians 9-8 in a gruelling encounter that saw Legall and Adams entertaining those present with some fundamental ‘big man’ plays in the paint in Plaisance.
In their two earlier games, Raptors downed Belladrum Lions 14-9 and overcame Plaisance based Extreme Underdogs 13-8; Arthur scored six points while Legall had seven points. TRS Raptors will move on to the Super Eight Grand Finale.
In other results, Team Venom beat Extreme Underdogs 14-7 in the first fixture of the night while in the second game; Plaisance Guardians defeated Extreme Underdogs 9-7 with Belladrum Lions coming from behind to overcome Guardians 10-8.
Guardians also toiled to a 9-8 overtime victory against Team Venom becoming the first team to score the mandated two points after regulation time levelled the scores at seven apiece. FIBA’s rule came into practice, suggesting the winner must be two points clear.
Lions defeated Extreme Underdogs 10-8 in the sixth matchup whilst Team Venom grabbed their second victory in the eighth fixture when they downed Belladrum Lions 12-10. The tournament continues tonight at California Square, East Ruimveldt.
