A 20-year-old food vendor accused of receiving a quantity of stolen brand-named clothing, was granted
$50,000 bail when she appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, last.
Tinesha Roberts, of 51 Robert Road, Plaisance, was taken before Magistrate Ann McLennan to respond to a charge of receiving stolen property.
It is alleged that between November 15 and 29, last at Regent Street, Georgetown, Roberts received three pairs of ladies jeans, one Guess purse, and one belt. According to the charge, the items which amounted to $63,000 belonged to Azalea’s Top Brand, a city store.
The 20-year-old pleaded not guilty to the charge and submitted an application for reasonable bail through her lawyer, Paul Fung-a-Fat.
In his petition, Fung-a-Fat said that his client has an unblemished record and added that Roberts did not know that the articles were stolen when she bought them.
The lawyer told the court that the said store was robbed two weeks ago but his client had no knowledge of that crime.
He said that when Roberts bought the items, they bore no tags and added that she had purchased the articles for $20,000. Fung-A-Fat implored “Your worship, it is the festive season. You must want to buy clothes and dress up.”
His application was met with no objections from Police Prosecutor, Corporal Deniro Jones. He asked, however, that it be set at a substantial sum.
Magistrate McLennan, in response, granted bail and adjourned the matter until January 7 for statements.
