Guyana’s Jason Yaw is the new South American Youth Championship record-holder after he set a new mark in
Colombia on Saturday last, running 46.79 seconds to erase the old mark of 47.46s in the event. Yaw undoubtedly came of age in the event he favours.
The lanky athlete also ran under the old record in his heat when he posted 47.42s. Yaw has never run faster than his new record, which means that the mark is also his Personal Best time over the 400m distance. The Youth Championships are for athletes Under 18 years.
Meanwhile, Natricia Hooper, another Running Brave athlete, complimented Yaw well when she ran 55.05 secs to clinch silver in the Girls’ 400m race. The Running Brave Athletics Club Coach, Julian Edmonds was sent to Colombia with the athletes.
The Running Brave three-member national team did not disappoint with their performance. This newspaper understands that Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) President, Aubrey Hutson, who is the former President of Running Brave, is also in Colombia.
