Ravens hung onto its lifeline in a must-win game Sunday night at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall to send Pacesetters
crashing out of the third annual Phillip George Legacy tournament in just the preliminary round of the Division I and III competition.
Ravens won 72-65 in another classic showdown among the two basketball titans in Georgetown, a phenomenon that may well be changing. Akeem Kanhai scored 20 points as Dominic Vincente dropped 19 points in a brigade of adolescent leadership.
Though Pacesetters had five players in double figures it could not stem the youthful combination of Vincente and Kanhai. Stephon Gillis scored 13 points while Travis Burnett added 11 points as Joslyn Crawford and Naylon Loncke had 10 points each.
Meanwhile, both Nets and Colts kept their unbeaten record intact to become the front runners in the competition when Colts beat Pepsi Sonics 77-67 and Nets won 71-65 against the Georgetown Masters.
In the Colts win, Shane Webster scored 20 points with Dave Causway adding 19 points. Shelroy Thomas pitched in with 13 points, while Nikkoloi Smith had 10 points. For Sonics, Trevor Smith had 19 points with Jason Squires scoring 16 points. Collis Pluck had 15 points.
Nets’ Mortimer Williams dumped in 16 points for the team, while Pelham Doris had 12 points as Antwaun Austin and Sheldon Howell scored 11 and 10 respectively. For the Masters, the former Ravens combination, Lugard Mohan and Aubrey Younge continued to get it done with 21 points and 12 points in that order.
Earlier, Linden’s Victory Valley Royals defeated Melanie Patriots 108-72 with Chris Williams scoring 28 points and Marlon Adams 24 points. Marlon Pollydore had 18 points as Ron Beckles and Bonny Wilson scored 13 points apiece for Royals.
Sherlan Legal had a mammoth 37 points to lead all scorers with Rayburn Bower adding 10 points and Floyd Arthur nine points. The competition will continue Friday night at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
