A 62-year-old janitor is currently in critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC)
after she was struck by a truck, while walking on the pedestrian crossing in front of the Agricola Primary School, East Bank Demerara, yesterday.
Reports indicated that Fatimah Jamal, of 101 Ceasar Street, Agricola, had just finished her janitorial duties at the Alpha Hotel (opposite Agricola Primary School) and was crossing the road to get home.
According to her daughter, Amani Jamal, her mother was knocked down around 7:15 hours yesterday, by a speeding truck whose driver appeared to have lost control. The janitor was rushed to the GPHC by public spirited citizens.
The matter was reported at the Ruimveldt Police Station and the driver of the truck is in police custody assisting with investigations.
Jamal is unresponsive in GPHC’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with broken limbs and several abrasions about her body.
