A little over two weeks after she returned from the United States, a Richmond, Essequibo woman is now afraid. She was attacked on three occasions and almost raped by a suspected serial rapist.
The 62-year-old has been sleeping by her sister ever since the repeated attacks. Relating the horrifying incidents, the woman who displayed marks on her neck, stated that just 12 days after she returned from the United States after spending six months with her son and grandchildren, a man entered her home through her back door. The man was wearing a pair of boxer shorts only, the woman said.
The woman who lives alone said she got up and went into the bathroom. Upon her return she noticed someone shining a torchlight. She said that as she entered her bedroom she noticed all of her clothes were strewn on the floor.
She was confronted by the man who was masked and brandishing a knife.
“Hello what you doing here, I ain’t come back with US,” the woman said.
The man escaped after that first confrontation, the woman added. However, on Saturday night the same man entered her house by removing the louver pains from her windows.
The woman said the man proceeded to scale the walls separating the bedroom from the living room and pounced on her while she was asleep. “A got you here now; don’t holler; if you holler I will kill you.”
She said the man subdued her by pressing his knee into her side and choking her. The woman said at one instance she gave up struggling because her body felt listless and she could hardly breathe.
The woman said her neighbours heard her moans. They began making noises with a cutlass in an attempt to ward off the man but were scared since they feared that the man had a gun. The struggle continued until the masked man fled with the woman’s underwear, cologne and cream.
On Monday last, the woman lodged a report with the police at Anna Regina and was told to undergo a medical examination at the Suddie Public Hospital. No arrest has been made so far. The woman started living in her house since 2007.
A neighbour of the Richmond woman lost her salary after an unknown man attempted to enter her home. The man however, managed to steal the woman’s money by putting his hand through a window and picking up the money from a nearby table.
Another incident of burglary was reported by another woman, who said a man attempted to enter her house, but because she managed to scare him away by alerting the neighbours. The man only managed to escape with her underwear.
