The horserace meet organised by the Rising Sun Turf Club in collaboration with Mohammed ‘Nankoo’ Shariff of the Shariff Business Enterprise and racing stable is turning out to be a keenly anticipated encounter.
With race day set for Sunday 30 November 2014, which is just over a week away at the club’s entity Arima Park West Coast Berbice, most of the stables are rounding out preparations for the big meet.
Word out of the organizers is that the venue is in good shape and over 50 horses have entered for what is expected to be an action packed day of racing. With an impressive eight-race card on the programme and incentives totaling over $6.5M in cash, trophies and other goodies, entries have been high so far.
The feature A class event will see the winner set to race away with a sumptuous $1M and trophy over 1400M. Word is that most of the top stables are training more than one horse to enter the event. With champion horse Score’s Even of the Dennis DeRoop Simple Royal Stable beaten in its last two meets by two different horses and preparing to participate again, revenge will definitely be on cards. The stable is also preparing Church House and Run Nana Run.
Likewise the Jumbo Jet stable is preparing Grande De Roja, Captain Crook, Jack Is My Style and Got to Go. The Shariff Stable is also putting four animals, three of which has defeated Score’s Even before, through their paces – namely Princess She Not, California Strike and Settle in Seattle. The fourth is the newly imported Plum Plum coming with a tremendous record from overseas. Guyana Cup Champion CP Got Even is expected to lead a three horse entry from the Colin Elcock Racing Stable.
The inform Treacle is also expected to be among the starters from the Habubulla Dookie Stable. While the Jagdeo stable is also expected to enter more than one animal for the big race. Other horses such as Red and Lovely and Dark and Lovely are also expected to feature.
The other events listed are for horses classified E3 and lower over 1400M for a winning tag of $400,000 and trophy.
The three year old race for West Indies and Guyana Bred horses winning prize is $400,000 and trophy. The G3 and lower race for the $300,000 first prize is also over 1400M.
There is an event for two year old West Indies bred animals for a winner’s prize of $300,000 and trophy over 1100M.
The two year old event for Guyana born animals has a first prize of $200,000 and trophy also over 1100M. The ‘I’ class horses will race over 1100M is for a $200,000 top prize and trophy.
The J and lower event has a $180,000 winning and trophy over 1100M.
Among the sponsors on board so far are Beverage Giants Banks DIH Limited, Trophy Stall, Republic Bank, Gene Equipped (John Dere) Company, Jumbo Jet, Shano Seenarine, Younas Construction, KP Jagdeo Construction, Colin Elcock’s Delmur Shipping Company and the Shariff Business enterprise.
The Trophy Stall, Bourda Market, will provide sponsorship for the top individual performers including champion jockey, champion trainer and champion stable.
