The University of Guyana Berbice Campus (UGBC) will be holding its 13TH Convocation
Ceremony today at 16:30 hrs at the University Square, Tain, Port Mourant, Corentyne.
Approximately two hundred and thirty three (233) students from eighteen (18) programmes in four faculties are expected to graduate. The Faculty of Education and Humanities is expected to present the largest number of graduands. This year, one hundred and three (103) graduands, will be presented from eight (8) programmes: Bachelor of Education, Administration (15), Bachelor of Education, Primary (28), Bachelor of Education, Early Childhood (9), Bachelor of Education, Social Studies (3), Associate Degree in English (9), Certificate in Education, Administration (12), Certificate in Education, Primary (21), and Certificate in Education, Early Childhood (6).
The Faculty of Social Sciences is expected to present eighty-nine (89) graduands from five (5) programmes: Degree in Public Management (12), Diploma in Accountancy (20), Diploma in Public Management (23), Diploma in Marketing (10), and Diploma in Social Work (24).
The Faculty of Natural Sciences will present thirty-nine graduands (39) from four programmes, Associate Degree in Biology (22), Associate Degree in Chemistry (8), Associate Degree in Mathematics (3), and Diploma in Computer Science (6). The Faculty of Agriculture will present two (2) graduands. The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Guyana, Professor Jacob Opadeyi, will preside over the convocation exercise while the official proceedings, including the granting of certificates, diplomas and degrees, will be managed by the Registrar, Mr. Vincent Alexander, and the Deans and Coordinators of the various academic programmes at the Berbice Campus.
Mr. Clinton Williams, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) will be the guest speaker at this event.
Other senior officers of the University are expected to be at this event. There is no Bona-fide Chancellor of the university, Dr. Compton Bourne being the last of such.
The Guyana Police Force Band is expected to entertain the audience throughout the evening’s proceedings.
