Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United and Rhythm Squad FC battle for title
Football buffs that trooped to the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) over the past few weeks would admit that the action witnessed in the GFA/Stag Beer 2014 Futsal Football tournament was indeed enthralling. Activities have now climaxed to the best two teams.
Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United FC faces off with Rhythm Squad FC for championship honours while Santos FC will tackle Western Tigers in the third place playoff. Rhythm Squad sealed the spot after defeating Santos 3-0 compliments of a brace by Stefon Ramsay while Sceyon Hope contributed one goal.
Alpha advanced after steamrolling Western Tigers 5-1 with the stars being Dwight Peters (2 goals), with support from Christopher Camacho, Daniel Wilson and Paredes Aldair. Indeed the games were fast paced and tactical and one would be hard pressed to sift out a winner for the final encounter. What is certain is that it will be a fiercely fought affair.
The ardent fans of both teams will mount arguments for their team’s success and with the form witnessed in the earlier matches they may just have enough justification for their choice.
Fans will also be treated to top class entertainment with several exhibition matches. Among them is the highly anticipated duel between the media team and the referees. The former squad prevailed with a 4-1 drubbing of the latter and the referees will be out to reverse their fortunes. There will also be match between the East All Stars against the West All Stars while Ansa McAl and Wartsila clash in a return game.
Sparta Domino team will also oppose Phantom Domino team for bragging rights while a GT Masters team oppose their counterparts of Brazil to cap off the night of activities. Jumbie Jones will also provide added entertainment.
The tournament was fiercely contested and fans could expect a similar display of guts and skill in the championship game. Apart from bragging rights the winner carts off $400,000 with the loser pocketing half that amount. The winners of the third place playoff receive $125,000 with the losers getting $75,000 respectively. Action gets underway at 18:30hrs.
