Enterprise ‘Busta’ Sports Club extended their winning streak to three in a row
when they defeated Better Hope Sports Club by 34 runs at the Better Hope Community Centre on Sunday in the East Coast Cricket Board (ECCB) Trophy Stall under-19 Champions.
Winning the toss on a bright sunny day Enterprise ‘Busta’ Sports club elected to bat with a large crowd in attendance. Better Hope Sports Club started well by removing both openers Bashkar Yadram and Sewchan Gangaram early. With the score at 8 for 2, Afzal Rohoman and Zaman Rasheed began to steady the innings reaching 50 for 2 in the 8th over. Rohoman was dismissed for 27 (4X4).
Rasheed went for 14, making way for Captain Vivian Albert with the score on 66-4. Pradesh Balkishun and his captain worked the ball around to reach 103 – 4 in the 18th over. Albert was the next to go for 28 (3X4 – 1X6). Balkishun fell shortly after for 30 (4X4), Enterprise ‘Busta’ Sports Club appeared to be running into trouble with the score on 131-6. Shivnarine Gobin came and went for 2. Danesh Ally came and staged a mini recovery reaching 150-7.
Ally, Govin and the new batsman fell in quick succession with the score on 161-9. Troy Mangal and Satyanand Nandkumar took the score to 190 all out in the 38th over. Mangal blasting a quick-fire 19 in five balls with 2 -6s and 1-4. Bowling for Better Hope Sports Club were Chandra Mohan with figures of 7-1-30-3, Kishan Sookram 8-0-39-3 and Silvan Kowlessar 8-0-40-2.
Better Hope Sports Club in reply started with Randy Danraj and Vickram Paul. Paul went cheaply for 2 with the score on 8-1. Prakash Debidial was the new batsman. The duo batted well before Danraj was bowled for 28 striking 2-4s and 2-6s.
With the total on 49-2, Kishan Sookram joined Debidial. Debidial was the next to go with the score on 69, he made 23 (1X4). Reaz Mohamed’s arrival at the crease saw some sensible batting. Kishan Sookram then departed for 19 (1X6). With the score on 130-5 Reaz Mohamed was the next to go for a well constructed 32 (4X4). Chandra Mohan offered some resistance with 18 (1X4, 1X6), but with the home side’s continuous loss of wickets, the innings came to a close at 156. Bowling for Enterprise ‘Busta’ Sports Club, Bashkar Yadram took 2-40, while Bashkar Deodat 4-8.
At the presentation ceremony, President of Better Hope Sports Committee Jagnarine Singh, who presented the ‘Player-of-the-Match’ trophy, lauded the ECCB and President Bissoondyal Singh for the excellent work done throughout the East Coast, “The Coast Cricket Board is the best managed Association in Demerara and what we have seen today is a testimony to this fact.” He also congratulated the Enterprise ‘Busta’ Sports Club for winning the tournament, while encouraging the youngsters to work hard to improve and develop their game.
Meanwhile, President of the ECCB Bissoondyal Singh commended both teams for reaching the final and congratulated the Enterprise ‘Busta’ Sports Club for winning the prestigious Trophy Stall competition. He also expressed gratitude to Mr. Ramesh Sunich for sponsoring the tournament and for his continuous contribution towards the development of youths on the East Coast of Demerara.
Deodat was declared Player of the Match and received a trophy for his bowling performance of four wickets for eight runs from 2.4 overs.
