The Human Resources Manager of the National Agriculture Research Institute (NARI) narrowly escaped death when a bullet fired from the gun of a bandit grazed his neck just after midday yesterday.
Wylock Sahadeo was up to late yesterday afternoon receiving treatment for the wound at a private hospital.
Police in a press release stated that about 12:30 hours yesterday, it was observed by staff that a building in the NARI Compound, Mon Repos, ECD, was broken into.
The Human Resources Manager went to check and was confronted by three men, one of whom was armed with a firearm. The bandit discharged a round hitting Sahadeo to his neck, resulting in a grazed wound. The men managed to escape.
A source in the area told this newspaper that employees of NARI and the nearby Guyana School of Agriculture have been plagued by an increase in bandit attacks recently.
The source said that only last week a Veterinary Doctor was a victim of one such attack, losing his licenced firearm in the process.
