Dear Editor,
Within recent times, it seems that whenever the less-schooled Minister of Home Affairs and General Secretary appears on TV at his weekly press conferences, his favorite sound bite, though very bizarre and immature, is “I do not remember or I plead ignorance.”
One would have thought that at all times, when he claims to be acting for the people by virtue of the position he holds, one would expect him to conduct himself in a respectable and responsible manner with the interests of the people being of paramount importance but clearly, he does not.
Instead, he appears bitter and arrogant and blames everyone else for his and his party failures. His decision to do what is best and right for the citizenry is placed last while his party affairs and interests take first place.
The mere fact that he pleads ignorance not only shows that he is really ignorant but also stupid to the point of no return. His public display of fake patriotism and phony loyalty is what the nation will be subjected to until the next election when the PPP will be routed from office. And while the hype and the sensationalism associated with his public display of madness may be entertainment for his comrades, for the people, it is just a reminder of the bad state of affairs in Guyana.
A decade ago, crime statistics were showing that domestic violence accounted for one in three murders and gang-related violence accounted for more than 60 per cent of the murders. And while Guyanese have been lamenting the high crime statistics, the Minister of Home Affairs did absolutely nothing to ease their fears. Instead, what the unschooled Minister and General Secretary and the PPP cabal have done is to perfect the blame game.
They still have not dealt with the problem of crime decisively, corruption, and illegal drug trafficking by the drug barons.
Recently, Guyana has been rolling from one crisis to another which suggests that it is impossible for the country to be productive internally, or to convey to our CARICOM neighbors and to the international community, whose investments we need, that we are on top of our game and are worthy of their time and investments.
There are numerous situations where Guyana has been plunged into a series of horrible crisis that no one saw coming. The crisis began with the Minister of Finance spending $4.5 billion of the taxpayers’ money which was not approved by Parliament. Even though he was threatened with censure by the opposition, the Minister refused to account to the nation how the money was spent.
This was followed by the no confidence motion which subsequently triggered the mother of all Constitution crises. With the no confidence motion pending, the PPP has added fuel to the fire by wrapping arms around the Commissioner General of the GRA who was exposed by the Publisher of Kaieteur News, Glenn Lall for sharing confidential tax information of Kaieteur News with private citizen Bharat Jagdeo and the Attorney General, Anil Nandlall.
By disrespecting his OATH of SECRECY which he swore to uphold, the GRA Boss has committed a serious crime and appropriate charges should be laid against him.
Then came the Kaieteur News bombshell tape with some of the most vulgar and obscene language by the Attorney General who clearly stated that he is a thoroughbred who is superior to Jagdeo and other East Indians because he is from the CHATREE caste.
The final crisis was on Monday November 10, 2014 when the president shamelessly used the same Constitution that he and his PPP cabal had vehemently criticized for decades to prorogue Parliament which is the seat of democracy.
This is not only hypocritical; it is also an embarrassment and a disgrace for the people of Guyana. No rational leader with a sound mind who believes in democracy would indulge in such despicable act, but dictators do.
