Crawford is 40K cycle road race champ; Doris takes gold in girl’s event
Romello Crawford of District six, Corentyne overpowered his rivals to capture the Ministry
of Education/Guyana Teachers Union National Schools 40k cycle road race yesterday. The race commenced with 30 riders from Ocean View International Hotel, Lilendaal East Coast Demerara and proceeded to Belfield before returning to the starting point.
Crawford, Michael Anthony and Mario King dominated much of the proceedings during the course of the race but with just over 100m to the finish line, Crawford separated himself from his rivals to win the contest in a time of One Hour 05 Minutes and 03 Seconds.
Anthony of District 10, Upper Demerara/Kwakwani placed second and King of District 12, East Georgetown, third.
Toshwanna Doris of District 11, North Georgetown took gold in the 25k girl’s event which also pedaled off at Lilendaal, proceeded to Stratsphey and returned. The experienced Doris encountered little hiccups as she was timed at 50 Minutes and 39 Seconds.
Ronella Samuels of District four, East Coast Demerara grabbed silver and Whitney Poyer of District six Corentyne, the bronze. The race started with 13 riders.
