Destroy Mon Repos by 345 runs
Two first division first division cricket records were shattered at the Lusignan
Community Centre ground on Sunday as National under-19 captain Brian Sattaur and Somnauth Barratt of Lusignan, launched a brutal assault on a hapless Mon Repos unit in the East Coast Cricket Board (ECCB) Elizabeth Styles 40-over cricket competition as the visitors were mauled by 345 runs in one-sided affair.
Barratt clobbered 14 fours and nine sixes in an explosive 136 and shared in an East Coast record opening partnership of 270 with the left-handed Sattaur, who smashed 11 fours and cleared the large boundaries four times in an even century. The attacking openers propelled their team to a massive 415-6 when their 40 overs expired before Mon Repos were bundled out for 70.
Sattaur, known for his pugnacious batting, was outscored by the belligerent Barratt, who hit medium pacer Ravi Zaman to long-on to separate the openers in the twenty seventh over. This was the first time that both openers had scored centuries in an East Coast first division game.
Lusignan won toss and elected to bat first and after Barratt, who flayed an innocuous Mon Repos bowling attack to all parts of the Lusignan sward, Demerara left-hander Krishna Deosarran (51) and Rajendra Naikbaran, who ended on 47 not out, continued the carnage.
Ravi Persaud finished with 2-67 off eight overs for Mon Repos, who were outclassed with no batman reaching 20. Under-15 leg-spinner Tameshwar Motilall spun webs around the batsmen to capture 5-8 in a destructive 2.3-over spell. Leon Morgan supported with 3-24 off five overs.
