Dear Editor,
I am writing you again for your help in highlighting another issue that I think is unfair. I wrote you previously concerning the refusal by the bank to accept the letter of assurance, the bank now accept my letter of assurance, thanks for informing the authorities through your article.
The issue I would like you to highlight this time concerns the 20% discount on cement from TCL. I made an attempt to apply for the discount, only to be told by the local housing office which I have gone to for a letter to take to TCL, that my house lot is not a low income lot, which is a requirement to qualify.
It is my understanding that the majority of those house lots in the scheme people paid $500,000 and that is classified as middle income by the housing ministry.
Paying that amount is already a burden on many and I think it is unfair that the majority would not be benefiting from that discount. It is no surprise that after almost two years after those lots were allocated you can count on one hand how many people have moved in the scheme because Most haven’t yet completed payments of their lots.
It is my opinion that the people that are eligible to qualify for the 20% discount are the people who wouldn’t afford a concrete house because it seems to me they are the ones that go for wooden homes.
I think more people need to benefit from such discount. I would be grateful if you can bring this to the attention of the authorities.
