The Flying Ace Cycling Club in Berbice will today hold its annual one day ‘Track Attack’ cycle event at the Area H Ground Rose Hall Town, Corentyne. Apart from cycling there will also be flat races and a number of novelty events.
Cyclists and athletes from Berbice including New Amsterdam, Canje, West Berbice and Corentyne are expected to trek to the venue to be a part of the day’s activities.
All the top cyclists of the club including Neil Reece, Wasim Hassnu, Rohan Persaud, Ray Millington, Syborne Fernandes, Elijah Brijadder, Odrell Ross, Keith Griffith, Yassher Israel and top female cyclist Marica Dick among others are expected to take part in the action.
There will be events for open riders, juniors, juveniles, BMX, veterans, school boys, starters, females and schoolgirls including the 5000 the 3000 and 1500 meters events.
There will also be flats races of various categories, distances and age groups including the much anticipated 100M and 200M events.
The day’s event is expected to ride off at 10:00 hrs.
A number of businesses have contributed the staging of the event and among them are GT&T, Mings Services Limited, Amerally Company, Kings Jewelry World, Hand In hand, Boston Bakery, Tony’s Grocery, Water Chris Hotel, Courts, GEB Security, Lewis general Store of Rose Hall Town and Lloyd’s and Kim’s Fashion.
Coach of the club Randolph Roberts said that sports is one of the few activities which help to keep youths focused. He explained that today’s event is expected to bring out the best athletes in Berbice. (Samuel Whyte)
