Carl Goodman, an excavator operator who the court heard has had no previous brushes with the law, faced a break and enter charge yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. The 19-year-old appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine – Beharry.
It is alleged that on November 9, last, at Stevedore Housing Scheme, Georgetown, Goodman broke and entered the home of Lionel McKenzie and stole one television, one surround sound stereo, one Apple iPod, one generator, a quantity of clothing, gold and silver jewellery and electrical appliances valued at a total of $832,000.
Goodman pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Police Prosecutor Michael Grant told the court that the defendant admitted to the crime while he was in custody. He further noted that Goodman had in his company an unknown accomplice.
Goodman said, “They never question nor ask me nothing…they just come to me yard and pick me up”.
Prosecutor Grant stated that Goodman resides at 3415 Stevedore Housing Scheme and has no priors.
Prosecutor Grant had no objections to bail and the defendant was granted same to the tune of $100,000. Statements were ordered and the matter has been transferred to Magistrate Faith McGusty’s court on November 28.
