Vigilante justice was taken out on four armed bandits that descended onto
“Archie’s Hideout” in Fifth Street, Success, East Coast Demerara (ECD), Tuesday night.
According to reports, two of the bandits were armed with cutlasses and one with a firearm. At 21:30hrs, the quartet then proceeded into a bar, “Archie’s Hideout” where they confronted four men. They relieved the victims of cash and valuables. After fleeing the scene the victims raised an alarm.
Villagers and public spirited citizens responded. Members of the Community Policing Group and police ranks later intervened.
The bandits scampered through neighbouring yards and streets with villagers in hot pursuit. Eventually they caught two of the men. There was also an exchange of gunfire between another bandit and the police. This bandit was shot.
Police intervened into the beating of two of the bandits while the fourth perpetrator escaped in a vehicle. The two bandits were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where they were admitted under police guard. The third was taken into police custody as investigations continue.
Two of the bandits were identified as Kevin Anthony of Festival City, North Ruimveldt, and Seon Hersham of West Ruimveldt.
One of the residents of Seventh Street, Success ECD, told Kaieteur News that he had to patch up 15 feet of his wooden fence which one of the bandits crashed through while fleeing from the police.
One businessman in the area disclosed that one of the bandits ran through his yard and squeezed through his fence but was caught. He received a trashing and his shirt was left behind at the scene on the parapet.
