The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) is expected to commence the new motor
vehicle registration “TT” series, shortly.
According to the authority, Commissioner General of the GRA, Khurshid Sattaur, in his capacity as Chief Licencing Officer, has given approval for the new series to commence.
The current ‘SS’ motor vehicle registration series officially commenced on November 25, 2013. The new “TT” registration series will affect privately registered vehicles, buses, trailers and goods vehicles including vans and lorries.
“A Motor Vehicle Registration Series elapses after 9999 vehicles have been registered by the LRO (Licence Revenue Office).”
According to GRA yesterday, motor vehicle owners are reminded that the motor vehicle licence is valid until the registration anniversary of the vehicle.
“As such, licence must be renewed every year on or before the anniversary of the vehicle’s registration. Vehicles that are now being registered or vehicles which had updates made to their registration, for example, transfer of ownership, change of colour, change of intended use, etc must be physically examined by the Licence Revenue Office of the GRA.”
All registration and change of motor vehicle registration are being done at GRA Headquarters, on Camp Street, South Cummingsburg, while vehicles are being examined at the Smyth Street Office or any GRA Regional Branch Office.
In recent years, there has been a marked increase in the number of vehicles being brought in from mainly Japan. This was after lending rates at the banks were reduced, opening the floodgates for financing.
In addition to new car dealers, there has also been an increase in persons shopping on the internet for their own vehicles.
