An excavator operator was jailed for nine months yesterday on a break and enter and larceny charge.
Collin Batson, sentenced to 9 months for break and enter charge
Collin Batson appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to respond to the charge.
It is alleged that between October 30, and October 31, last at Omai Backdam, Essequibo, Baston broke and entered Onkar Persaud’s storeroom and stole a chainsaw, washing machine, four rods of electrical wire, radiator, outboard engine with tank, a quantity of medical supplies, five gallons of oil, 24 bearings, and a tool kit.
Batson pleaded guilty. In tears before the Chief Magistrate, the defendant apologized and stated that he only stole the engine, tank, and medical supplies.
Batson is a father of four who hails from Lot 100 Middle Road, Silvertown, Wismar, Linden. He was formerly employed as an excavator operator with the complainant’s mining company.
The accused was unrepresented and told the court that he has no priors.
