Albion Community Centre and Universal Solutions Bermine have emerged as the top teams in the Berbice Cricket
Board organized 2014 Carib Beer First Division T20 Cricket Competition and clash in the final tomorrow night at Albion to determine which of them will be this year’s champions.
Defending champion Albion Community Centre will certainly start as favorites, more so especially since they will be at full strength. Their all-spin bowling attack, the best in the country, which has stifled the best batting sides recently, will be spearheaded by West Indian ‘A’ leg spinner Devendra Bishoo, former West Indian left arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul and the West Indian Under-19 and Berbice left arm spinner Gudakesh Motie as well as off spinner in former West Indies all-rounder Narsingh Deonarine, two who represented Guyana this year at the Under-19 level, Sharaz Ramcharran and Balchand Baldeo, former Guyana under-15 player Veerapen Permaul and this year’s Berbice Under19 all-rounder David Latchaya.
In the unlikely scenario that his services will be needed, former Guyana T20 batting star Jonathan Foo can be pressed into action with his leg spinners.
Their batting line-up is also very impressive and will be led by Guyana wicketkeeper – batsmen Anthony Bramble who has tallied 282 runs so far in the competition at an average of 70.2. Deonarine, Berbice opening batsman Kandasammy Suruinarine, Foo, Veerapen Permaul, Latchaya, Ramcharran, Baldeo and also Motie.
The seemingly outnumbered Universal Solutions Bermine are a determined team and is expected to do their best not to be rolled over easily and could even surprise Albion in this shortened version of the game. Their batting line up will include
Essequibo batsman Kevon Boodie, who, even though he missed the team’s last two matches, is still qualified having played two preliminary games as well as former Guyana Under-15 batsmen Leon Williams, Berbice all-rounders Devon Clements and Romario Shepherd, former Guyana Under-19 all-rounder Joemal La Fleur, Keion De Jesus and former Demerara all-rounder Damien Vantull.
The opening pace attack of Canada and former Guyana cricketer Jeremy Gordon and Shepherd and the first change Guyana Under-19 pacer Niall Smith can give Albion some food for thought. They will be backed up by their own battery of off spinners in former Guyana cricketer Stephen Latcha, Clements, La Fleur and Kevin Pelew who have all done well in the competition so far. Two other Bermine stalwarts, Anthony D’Andrade and Eugene La Fleur are both ineligible for this final.
All in all a good match is anticipated and should be enthralling especially because it will be the first official Berbice Cricket Board T20 competition club match played under lights. The match is scheduled to start at 5:30 pm.
Meanwhile, the third place playoff between Young Warriors and West Berbice is expected to get started at 1:30pm on the same day at the same venue.
The umpires for the final are Imran Moakan and Omedat Samaroo with Moses Ramphal the standby, while the third place play-off officiated by Moses Ramphal and Orvin Archer.
