Guyoil Tradewind Tankers Int. Club tourney serves off today …
The Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF) in association with first time sponsor Guyoil Tradewind Tankers will from today serve off a male and female International competition at the National Gymnasium from 17:00hrs, concluding on Sunday at the same venue.
The tournament which is in its third year will crown a new champion this year since last year’s champion, Big Sepos of Trinidad and Tobago will not be here to defend their title.
The local quest for top honours rests on the shoulders of national super league champions and runners-up, Achievers Volleyball Club and Port Mourant Training Centre in the male segment while on the distaff side, The Guyana Defense Force ladies will seek to impose their will against French Guiana and the Surinamese (Yelyco) who are the women’s champions.
This tournament comes on the heels of the just concluded Inter Guiana Games competition which was held in Suriname that saw the Guyanese volleyballers (male) breaking a seven year jinx against the host nation with a resounding
win that saw the Guyanese winning the gold medal having also defeated French Guiana.
Some of the said players that represented the Golden Arrowhead in Suriname are expected to feature this weekend.
The opening ceremony is set for 17:00hrs today and soon after the females will take centre stage. Matches will continue tomorrow and Sunday when the finals will be held.
