The mere fact that he has recruited one of the best known tuners to work on his
Mazda RX 7 simply means that Group 4 speedster Irfaan Kalamadeen is sparing no effort in getting his machine absolutely ready for the November 16 Seaboard Marine Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) showdown against both local and regional counterparts, at the South Dakota Circuit.
Kalamadeen, who has been a consistent campaigner in the marquee category, was seen overlooking work on his car which was being spearheaded by American Omar Crespo, who also offers his services to father and son Kevin and Kristian Jeffrey.
Commenting on his preparedness, Kalamadeen spoke of the amount of work that is being done to the cooling system, suspension, and the general handling of the car, all aimed at improving the overall efficiency and reliability of the machine.
While not prepared to say whether or not the modifications have increased speed, the Guyanese racer was more content to disclose how much more reliable it would be and its increased generation of speed in and out the corners which according to him was a genuine concern before.
Responding to the question of the quality of competition this year, Kalamadeen said it will definitely be ‘stiff’, but believes that the Guyana team is clearly the best assembled in many years and one which could retain the Country title.
He mentioned also that Guyana has a very good chance of grabbing the individual title as well with Kristian Jeffrey nicely poised at the head of the points standing, while Kevin, Mark Vieira, Vishok and Danny Persaud and the veteran Andrew King, all confirmed to compete.
Kalamadeen said Crespo brings a wealth of experience to the sport and has done a lot of work for the Guyanese drivers over the years. He extended thanks to his sponsors Ultra Lubricants and Jiffi Lubes for their support over the years.
