Sixteen football teams will be engaged in competitive action when officials of the
Georgetown Football Association (GFA) stage the GFA/Stag Beer 2014 Futsal Football tournament at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH). The action gets underway this afternoon and continues every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday until November 22 when the finals will be contested.
The competition will be sponsored by business conglomerate, Ansa McAl, and yesterday morning, the organizers convened at the Water Chris Hotel, Waterloo Street Georgetown, where Brand Manager of that firm, John Maikoo, confirmed his organization’s support. Also in attendance was President of the GFA, Vernon Burnett, Frank Parris and members of the participating teams.
As usual, the Ansa McAl executive extended goodwill to the organizers of the tournament while beseeching the players to play hard and within the confines of the rules.
Mr. Parris was happy to have received the support and told Mr Maikoo just so. The participating teams are Western Tigers, Fruta Conquerors, Flamingo, Black Pearl Beacons, Alpha United, GDF, GFC, Renaissance, Pele, Northern Rangers, Rhythm Squad, Police, Santos, Camptown and Houston. The winners receive $400,000, while the second place finishers receive half of that. The 3rd and 4th place finishers receive $125,000 and $75,000 respectively.
Eight games will be played tonight and the first game gets underway at 18:30hrs following the march past ceremony at 18:00hrs.
