Two men have been jailed for 36 months for stealing a man’s car earlier this year.
Kirtland Scott, 23, of Friendship, East Coast Demerara, and Mortimer Chan were sentenced by Magistrate Ann McLennan yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The two were earlier this year charged with stealing Iverly Allicock’s motor car (PPP 5786). The Toyota Axela motor car which is valued $2.7M was hijacked in front of the man’s John Street, Campbellville residence, on June 11, last.
When the charge was initially read, they pleaded not guilty.
It was previously reported that shortly after midnight, Allicock parked his car in front of his yard and retired to bed. When he awoke later that morning, he realised that his vehicle was missing.
The Prosecution stated that acting on information, a party of police ranks ventured to Buxton, East Coast Demerara and managed to recover the car. Intense investigations led to the two men being arrested and charged with simple larceny.
Another was charged about two weeks ago for stealing the said car. He had avoided the clutches of the police for quite some time.
The Prosecution was spearheaded by Police Corporal, Deniro Jones, who called on several witnesses during the trial. Following his lead of the evidence, the court found the two guilty as charged.
