A Berbice Chamber of Commerce and Development Association (BCCDA) X1
defeated West Berbice Super Kings by 13 runs when the two teams clashed on Saturday evening last in a 15/15 match at the Albion Community Centre.
The game was the feature clash when the BCCDA held its 5th annual Corporate Business in Sports (CBIS) Inter Agency softball cricket competition. Batting first under lights, the BCCDA X1 posted 142-3; Delbert Hicks slammed 59 (6×4 1×6), Seon Hetmyer 34 and Kevin Ramdeen 20* the main contributors.
West Berbice in reply were off to a bright start with openers Eon Abel 29 (4×4 1×6) and Derrick Codogan 41 (5×4) taking 32 off the first two overs before they were both sent back to the pavilion.
The introduction of spin shackled the West Berbice run chase as wickets fell at regular intervals. Nick Ramsaroop’s 26 towards the end of the innings was not enough to save West Berbice who fell for 129 in 14.4 overs.
Kevin Ramdeen (4-15) and Linden Austin (3-13) were the main destroyers. The winning trophy and a cheque were presented to Captain of BCCDA X1 Ishwar Singh by BCCDA President Mark Roopnarine.
