– residents finger close associate
Police are trying to find out how a 25-year-old woman ended up being shot in the stomach at around 23.00 hrs on Friday at her Lot 88 Freeman Street, East La Penitence home.
Sources identified the victim as Marissa Jabbar and said she is in a stable condition in the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation’s Female Surgical Ward.
According to one report, Jabbar and a close male associate had an argument during which she was shot.
Yesterday, a neighbour told this newspaper that she went out Friday night and when she got home she noticed the gate to Jabbar’s property was open.
The woman added that before she could have called out for the young woman to inform her about her opened gate, another neighbour told her that she heard a loud sound, similar to that of a gunshot.
“By the time the neighbour tell me that, I see Marissa run out, holding her belly. She run and then (the close associate) took her to the hospital in a taxi,” the neighbour related.
She added that when Jabbar’s close associate returned to the property with the police, he informed the ranks that bandits had shot Marissa.
“While the police looking around, he disappeared and up to now nobody aint see he back,” the neighbour told this newspaper.
However, a police source close to the investigation told this newspaper that on Friday, the 25-year-old woman’s associate informed them that he went out with some friends to take a drink and when he arrived home he called out for the woman to open the gate.
“(The associate) said that when Jabbar came out, two masked men rushed up to them and shot the woman and then escaped,” the policeman said.
The injured woman refused to speak about the incident when Kaieteur News visited her yesterday.
