– cops scour Providence backlands for ‘body’
Police yesterday scoured an area at Providence, East Bank Demerara for missing Industrial
ite, Squatting Area resident Troy Greenidge, after receiving reports that he may have been executed and buried there.
Greenidge’s mother, Seeta Persaud, told Kaieteur News that she received an anonymous call yesterday from a woman who informed her that her son had been beaten to death.
The caller also claimed that the killers had used an excavator to bury her son’s corpse at a Providence location.
Mrs. Persaud alleged that she immediately made a report at the Providence Police Station. According to the woman, she was told to speak to a senior police officer at the Brickdam Police Station.
But Mrs. Persaud alleged that the officer at Brickdam Police Station said that she would have to wait another week for ranks to trace the caller’s number, and that they would then search for the ‘body’.
Kaieteur News understands that police ranks searched for the alleged burial spot yesterday without success.
A source said that investigators are likely to continue their search today.
The 26-year-old man disappeared on Wednesday, October 15, reportedly after leaving Agricola and telling a relative that he was going to collect his wages from his “boss.”
There are reports that Greenidge, who had previous armed robbery charges, was apprehended that same day by a group of civilians after committing a burglary.
Kaieteur News was told that last Sunday, Greenidge’s reputed wife received a phone call from him. According to reports, Greenidge said that he didn’t know where he was but that he was “in the trunk of a car”. That was the last time relatives heard from him.
Seeta Persaud, the missing man’s mother, alleged that police ranks told her that they had detained a man that was allegedly involved in abducting her son.
Greenidge has a two-year-old son and his reputed wife, who is in French Guiana, is expecting another child.
In 2011, Greenidge and several others were charged with robbing employees of Guyana Stockfeeds Limited at gunpoint.
He was also detained by police in 2012 in the wake of the shooting death by police of Agricola resident Shaquille Grant.
Anyone knowing the whereabouts of Troy Greenidge can contact his relatives on 609-2304.
