Ricardo Peters stroked a fine century as Rising Star overcame Top Shattas by 11 runs to win the Cricket for Unity title played recently at Pomona on the Essequibo Coast. Peters struck five fours and six sixes in scoring 102 off 69 balls as Rising Star amassed 190-4 off their allotted 20 overs, batting first.
Jagdesh Dindyal stroked 42 including four fours and two sixes, while Rovin Dusraj chipped in with 20 not out (3×4). Osbert Thomas claimed 2-19 from four overs while Sherwin Abrams and Javed Azeez had one each. Top Shattas threatened somewhat but were restricted for 180-7 in 20 overs in reply. Chandy Jairam led the chase with 56 (5×4,4×6), Azeez scored 39 (2×4,2×6) and Sher Khan 29 (1×4,1×6). Ravindra Narine snared 3-19 off four overs and Rovin Dusraj 3-21 from four. Jaguars SC took third place.
The competition was organized by Coach Andy Ramnarine and was played on a round robin involving four teams. Jaguars Sport Club took third place.
Both teams received trophies and a cash prizes. Speaking after the final, Ramnarine expressed gratitude to the players and supporters for making the event a success and said it will be played annually.
