After losing the Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) and Pizza Hut franchise, DIDCO has reopened its restaurant doors – this time under the name of “Chicka D” and “Pizza D.”
The names and symbols of the international conglomerates that came to Guyana in the 1990’s have been removed from the locations on Vlissengen Road. In fact, the only remnants of the old outlets are the structures which are being altered and reused.
Blast messages were sent on Thursday to mobile subscribers encouraging customers to take advantage of offers at ‘Pizza D’ and ‘Chicka D’. Checks at the locations where Pizza Hut and KFC outlets once stood, revealed that the businesses are back in operation.
Employees are no longer wearing outfits with KFC or Pizza Hut logos. The word “Hut” was removed from the former Pizza Hut Vlissengen Road location, leaving only “Pizza.” The signature KFC bucket has also been stripped of its logo.
Receipts for purchases made at former branches now carry the new name of the company. Even the branding of the boxes and containers has changed.
Prior to the recent closure of the KFC outlets, representatives of the international chain had visited Guyana and inspected the branches. After that visit, the branches were closed for months of “maintenance.”
Managers and supervisors of the various city outlets have confirmed that the fast-food outlets remain in the hands of DIDCO Trading Company Limited.
