The sponsors and Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) could not have wished for a better final to conclude the Golden Brook / Windjammer / Toney Sevens League Competition. The two teams that will clash for the championship scheduled to be played tomorrow are University of Guyana Wolves and Yamaha Caribs. It should be a virtual dream final with a lot of bad blood and revenge involved and rugby fans should make it a date to be there at the National Park to witness what will definitely be a bruising affair.
It will be a rematch of the Banks DIH One-Day Sevens Tournament which saw UG Wolves erase a first half deficit to beat Caribs in a closely fought encounter and word is that the latter did not take the defeat lightly and have vowed to take revenge come tomorrow, while the Wolves have boasted about making it two wins in a row against their nemesis.
Former national Coach and Captain Theodore Henry, who seems to be a rejuvenated player, exhibiting the passion and hunger that typified his career earlier, has been in terrific form since the start of the season, while the speedy Carl Lewis, Keon David and Akeem Fraser have all lent admirable support in their success to date and they will need to continue in the same vein to get past a Wolves’ pack that is thirsty for more victories.
The Wolves on the other hand will look towards Ryan Dey, Godfrey Broomes, Osei McKenzie and Lance Adonis to lead their charge for triumph. It is anticipated that at the end of the competition the GRFU will name a provisional squad to commence training for the upcoming NACRA Sevens Championship scheduled to be staged in Mexico in December.
