– free reconnection, no penalties for tampering until November month end
The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) is offering domestic customers the opportunity to reconnect their water service free of cost under a new campaign titled ‘Free Pass.’
Commencing today (Wednesday, October 15), domestic customers who were disconnected can apply at any GWI commercial office for a ‘Free Pass’ which entitles them to a reconnected service without paying the usual $6000 fee.
The ‘Free Pass’ also extends to domestic customers whose service connections were entirely removed for large debt. Customers who would be required to pay $25,000 for illegally reconnecting their service will also receive exemptions under the ‘Free Pass’ programme. In addition, customers whose entire service was removed for tampering can save $10, 000 for the replacement of their service.
According to Public Relations Officer, Timothy Austin, customers can benefit from this limited time offer. The ‘Free Pass’ promotion ends November 29, 2014. The programme is being launched prior to the company’s annual large-scale countrywide disconnection campaign, which commences December 1, to provide disconnected customers with the opportunity to pay all outstanding arrears without the burden of reconnection or tampering fees.
“The goal of the GWI ‘Free Pass’ is to provide customers with a chance to settle all arrears before we begin our end of the year countrywide disconnection,’ Customer Services Manager, Jeannette Thomas underscored, ‘we urge all disconnected customers and those with illegal connections to apply for the GWI ‘Free Pass’ and avoid paying additional money in penalty fees.”
Thomas reiterated that after November 29 all penalties will be in effect.
“Most disconnected customers find it extremely hard to pay all arrears plus penalty fees which can be as high as $25000, hence we are urging every disconnected customer to apply for a ‘Free Pass’ while it is still available.
“Our Enforcement Teams will be policing communities from December 1 and removing all illegal services as well as those services which were illegally reconnected. This is a chance for these customers to regularize their GWI service with zero penalty payments required.”
