Ali House scored 702 points to capture the top honours when the North Ruimveldt
Multilateral Secondary School (NRMSS) Inter House Athletic championships concluded at the Police Sports Club Eveleary, Friday afternoon last.
Wills House scored 641 points to occupy the second place position while Rutherford House closed off the podium spots after amassing 539 points. Lynch House occupied the 4th place slot with 518 points while Sylvester House resided in the cellar with 301 points.
On a day when young bodies demonstrated agility and willpower, several students dominated their respective categories in 64 competitive events. Johanna Davidson was outstanding in the Girls U-12 category, clinching victories in the discus, javelin, 100, 200, 400 and 100 meters events while Britney London dominated the U-20 events and won the 100, 200 and 400 meters events before returning to anchor the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 meters relays. She also captured the honours in the javelin throws.
Shamar Thompson dominated the boy’s Under-20 category with sterling victories in the 100, 200, 400 and 800 meters races while Renaldo Wishart outshone his rivals in the Under-16, 400, 800, 1500 and 5000 meters events.
He also ran brilliantly to lead his team to top honours in the 4 x 400 relay race. Halle Wilson was the top female in the Under-16 category after distinguishing herself in the 100 and 200 meters along with sterling performances in the discus and javelin throws.
Meanwhile, Sportsmaster, K. Mars lauded the students for their exemplary discipline even as he congratulated those athletes that stood out in their respective events. He said that activities were well organized and well attended.
Mr. Mars said that several officials from the Ministry of Education graced the event and complemented the organizers for maintaining discipline and order. The students are now getting ready to compete at the Inter Schools Athletic Championships slated for the Guyana Defense Force ground Wednesday October 29.
