Ansa McAl, under its Stag Beer Brand, yesterday officially announced its support for the
Guyana Softball Cup IV that bowls off this month end at several venues in Georgetown. The competition will feature teams from North America and Guyana.
“Ansa McAl Trading Ltd will be continuing its support of sport in Guyana as it collaborates with Guyana’s Floodlights Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA) through stag sponsorship,” the local beverage giants said in a press release.
Public Relations Officer at Ansa McAl, Darshnie Yussuf said yesterday that the company is very pleased with the growth of the competition these pass four years. She said that Cricket runs in the veins of Guyanese and as such, they are happy to offer support.
“We have been following the progress of the Guyana Softball Cup and we are very pleased with the development of the tournament and hence we are on board to lend our support and further assist in the growth of such a great event… Cricket is part of who we are as Guyanese hence it’s only fitting that we support and make this into one of the biggest events in our country,” Yussuf said.
Officials from the GFSCA, including Vice-Presidents Ricky Deonarain, Ramesh Sunich, Lalta Gainda, Reyaz Hussain and Pitamber Maharaj, expressed their gratitude for having such a huge company as Ansa McAl support the competition.
There will be two categories: the Men’s Open and Masters players aged 45 and over. The leading team in the Men’s Open is guaranteed an $800,000 first place prize and trophy, while the second place team pockets $200,000 and a trophy.
In the Masters’ competition, the winning team will earn $600,000 with the runner-up assured of $150,000. The Man-of-the-Match in both finals receives a trophy. The Stag GFSCA Guyana Cup will be held during October 31 –November 2.
