Three months after the death of 37-year-old Albert Williams at 72 Miles Potaro, Region Seven, relatives are calling
on the Commissioner of Police and the Minister of Home Affairs to intervene, since the police seem to be dragging their feet on the investigation of murder.
The Post Mortem examination revealed that Albert Williams suffered blunt trauma to the skull. That led to cerebral haemorrhage resulting in his death.
According to the dead man’s mother, Janet Williams, her son was murdered on Sunday June 22, 2014 and police detained three persons who were each later placed on $100,000 station bail.
The mother explained that on that date she received information that her son was lying in a pool of blood at “Audrey Hendricks” house.
“One of his brothers was passing that afternoon and saw him lying on the platform of the house. Other persons also saw him there. About 7:30 pm when I was about to have dinner with family members, my son-in-law, Lincoln, got the message of the murder and he went to see. He came back and told me that my son is dead and is lying on the road,” Ms. Williams lamented.
“When I go at the scene I saw my son lying dead on the road with blood on his face. Rodford Baptist, 19 years of age, the son of Audrey Hendricks, told me that he dragged him from the platform of the house and hoisted him on the road. One of his aunts, Joy, saw Rodford cleaning the platform the said night and the following morning. Other family members arrived at the scene and stayed up all night with the corpse.”
The matter was subsequently reported to the Bartica Police Station the night of the murder. Ms Williams said the police
received multiple reports about what transpired. “The officers who came inspected the body, took pictures and statements from persons around and arrested Rodford Baptist. He was taken into custody and the corpse was taken to Bartica Hospital then transferred to Lyken Funeral parlour.”
She said that the police received a confession pertaining to her son’s murder. However, Ms Williams is alleging that there appears to be some corruption involved in the case; since everything has been at a standstill.
Constant checks with the Bartica police only resulted in further excuses and nothing substantial pertaining to charges for the person accused of committing the murderous act.
It was further related by Ms Williams that police even retrieved from the scene of the crime, a blue three-cell Maglight (torchlight) which was labeled as the murder weapon. “The police know exactly who did the crime, but nothing is being done.”
