When play in the Stag Beer sponsored East Demerara Football Association senior league continued over the weekend at the Victoria Community Centre ground, in winners’ row were Mahaica Determinators, Sparta United and home team Victoria Kings.
In the lone fixture on Saturday, Mahaica Determinators defeated Golden Stars by the lone goal of a close tussle with the game being decided just two minutes to lemon time. Kapil Sookram it was who hit the back of the nets in the 88th minute for Mahaica.
The first game on Sunday produced a big win for underdogs Sparta United of Haslington who turned back the challenge of Ann’s Grove by a 3-1 margin.
Sparta, through Leon Clarke in the 20th minute took the lead but Ann’s Grove hit back to level the score five minutes into the second half compliments of Jamal Blair. Sparta restored the advantage when they were awarded a penalty in the 65th minute which was converted by Cordel Marks. The deal was sealed in the 80th minute via a Jamal Inniss goal.
The home team Victoria Kings cantered to a big 4-0 triumph over Buxton Stars. The Kings were led to victory by seasoned campaigner Winston Pompey who netted a double (30, 50). Dewayne Stephens opened proceedings in the 28th minute with the sealer coming off the boot of Calvin DeSouza in the 55th minute.
