Guyana‘s largest exposition and trade fair, GuyExpo, concluded on Sunday, and exhibitors are recounting the benefits of their participation.
The exhibition, which was officially launched last Friday under the theme, “Transformation: Partnering for a Better Guyana”, was aimed at providing business opportunities for entrepreneurs, both locally and internationally.
The event also allowed exhibitors to showcase their products, interact with consumers, and create trade linkages.
Several of this year’s participants commented on the upside of their involvement. Natasha David of Creative Designs, who featured a variety of Amerindian straw products (tibisiri), expressed satisfaction at the response she received.
“Although sales were slow at first I’m glad that I continued to participate in GuyExpo. My business keeps growing! I got to connect with locals and tourists alike, who have an interest in my products. It keeps getting better for me in terms of sales every year”, David said.
Amanda Williams–Clarke, owner of local craft/ gift shop “Williams Legacy”, said that the exhibition provided opportunities for consumers to be more conscious about the items which the store has to offer.
Williams said that she has also participated in the exhibition for a number of years, and this association has helped a long way in promoting her business.
“Even if we don’t get large sales during the exhibition, persons do browse… others may purchase, but quite a few individuals would normally contact us to do business afterwards,” Williams–Clarke added.
Local Designer and Chief Executive Officer of “Miracle Hands”, Carol Fraser, noted that this year her focus was on the creation of leather products.
“Most people know me as a clothing designer and for my work in fashion, but I chose to focus on my art and leather craft this year,” Fraser said.
The designer had on display a sofa which she dubbed her “masterpiece”. She took seven years to complete the intricate couch. While it is primarily made of leather, Fraser noted that the unique piece of furniture features aspects of art such as painting, drawing and pottery.
Navin Singh, Marketing Manager of newcomer “Corum Distribution” said that GuyExpo provided an excellent opening for the company to promote its ‘Boom’ Energy drink. According to Singh, the company gave out over 300 samples and has had numerous requests for distribution rights throughout the country.
Thousands of local and foreign patrons who visited the Sophia Exhibition Centre, expressed admiration at the vast collection of items on display, and noted that there were noteworthy improvements in several areas.
“It was a great opportunity for us to see and learn about deals to cash in on, and if you have a business, it remains one of the best ways to advertise your products,” one exhibitor opined.
