Dear Editor,
My daughter attends Patentia Secondary school and frequently complains about condition of the toilets which she is forced to use or otherwise hold her urine for the entire day. I would have never imagined how horrible the state was.
I took her for granted because I know she is a very particular child who complains about things which are not the way she wants them to be. It was not until she informed me about a possible vaginal infection she may have acquired from holding her urine for hours.
In addition to this, she stated that some days the fumes from the toilet disturb them. After taking her to a doctor I found out that her infection was related to insanitary conditions of toilets and for holding her urine for hours.
She later brought home pictures of the toilets which gave me indigestion and made me wonder how the staff of Patentia Secondary, which has so many women, can allow their students to use the toilets under these conditions.
There are over nine hundred students who attend this school. It is unthinkable that for three weeks school has been opened and these are the conditions. How long will students have to endure this discomfort.
I wish to appeal to the Ministry of Education to immediately deal with the matter of the insanitary conditions at Patentia Secondary School, since this can result in many girls especially, getting vaginal infections.
Concerned parent
